The early years - Steel constructions
The FEMONT company was founded by Alfons Fémont in 1929. Originally, the company specialized in general steel constructions for various industries. At an early stage, FEMONT started designing and manufacturing mobile crawler cranes and loader cranes.
In addition, FEMONT designed and produced grabs for truck-mounted cranes.
After 1955, FEMONT started to focus on electric gantry cranes and gantries for different industrial branches.
In the early 1970s, many years before its competitors, the company started automating the control of its products through the use of PLC technology.
This evolution made it possible to integrate automation into the control systems of customers' industrial processes, giving FEMONT a major advantage over its competitors.
FEMONT, located at Willebroek, was a large and well-known crane manufacturer for more than 35 years.
A world player in the field of special overhead cranes for the steel industry, automatic overhead cranes for the non-ferrous industry, waste processing, nuclear applications and container gantry cranes.
Integration with Port Tech
In 2010, the maintenance and repair department of FEMONT was transferred to Crane Repair, the daughter company of Port Tech, through a joint venture, together with part of the staff.
In 2014, all activities and resources of FEMONT were integrated into Crane Repair. A large number of the staff, consisting of engineers and technicians, together with the entire technical archive came under the Port Tech umbrella. With this integration the development and production for specific industrial processes under the FEMONT brand name could continue.
In 2022 Crane Repair was integrated into its parent company Port Tech, which allowed for new investments required to handle larger scale projects under the FEMONT brand.
Port Tech now manufactures FEMONT cranes, accessories and original spare parts and revamps existing FEMONT cranes.
